European Textiles: Expensive, But Oh-So-Worth-It
When it comes to designing a space, textiles make the biggest statements—working (sometimes quietly) behind the scenes, making everything feel more comfortable and sophisticated. In this Brookline home, every pillow, drapery, and upholstered piece was handpicked with the same care you’d put into choosing the perfect snack for movie night. We made sure each material not only reflected the client’s personality but also gave the home’s classic architecture a little extra flair. Customization is not for everyone, it certainly has its price tag, but we insist that clients trust us. Let us suggest custom interior design and invest in your textiles.
If it’s not custom, it didn’t make the cut. The shades, drapery, and throw pillows… all tailor-made. New furnishings are wrapped in handpicked textiles that were both soft and durable, while vintage pieces got a fresh new look thanks to a local upholsterer who worked their magic. Basically, if it had a surface, we thought long and hard about it. No fabric left unconsidered!
Window Treatments: Custom Roman Shades
Let’s talk about the real stars of the foyer—those custom Roman shades in the bay window. With their top-down, bottom-up magic, you can let in the light while keeping the neighbors from scoring a free show. Nighttime privacy? Covered. We didn’t stop there—a custom leather seat cushion and a set of pillows (we love a good round pillow) complete the cozy look. You’ll spot a similar charcoal fabric in the adjacent pool table room and the media room, and a custom beige linen version above the daybed upstairs – one fabric relating to the next, without being the same. Plenty of privacy, with plenty of variety.
Window Treatments: Custom Drapery Panels
In the living room, we’ve got custom beige drapery doing its thing—soft, neutral, and perfectly contrasting that black velvet sofa, (we love a little contrast). Over in the family room, we’re matching indigo drapes with custom denim upholstery on the sofa (both Gastón y Daniela), proving that yes, your furniture can coordinate with your jeans. And let’s not forget the primary bedroom, where teal linen drapery (more Gastón y Daniela) teams up with a matching alpaca wool (Yeti, from Pierre Frey) accent pillow for an oh-so-coordinated look. Drapery here isn’t just for privacy—it’s basically art.
Custom Interior Design: Pillow Paradise
Custom pillows reign supreme in this home. In the media room, you’ll find brown and neutral ethnic prints (more Pierre Frey) chilling on custom upholstered velvet swivel chairs (velvet from Kravet) and a sectional that’s basically begging for a movie marathon. Over at the daybed, we’ve got a French tufted “mattress” decked out with a chenille bolster and plaid alpaca wool accent pillows —fancy and French (both Pierre Frey). And in the living room, salmon-toned cut velvet meets olive green angora (yep, also Pierre Frey), bringing some serious color and comfort to an otherwise neutral space. We admit it—we’re pillow freaks, and we’re proud.
The Transformative Power of Textiles
In the end, this Brookline project shows just how impactful a home can be when homeowners fully embrace the power of textiles. It certainly helps that this homeowner is an artist specializing in—yes—fiber art, bringing her own passion for color, pattern, and texture to every corner. Her excitement made each room feel more alive, more personal, and undeniably unique. Take a page from her book: trust us with your textile choices, and let’s make your home just as vibrant.
