Waterfront Escape
This Martha’s Vineyard beach house shows how thoughtful design can bring warmth and personality to even the most basic new build. As a New England interior designer, ferry trips to Martha’s Vineyard are part of the job. In Edgartown—a historic Massachusetts town with timeless charm—I’ve designed homes that reflect the region. This beach house, once a white-walled blank canvas by the water, became a bright, welcoming retreat. Despite a tight budget, a fast-tracked timeline, and plenty of logistical challenges, the project came together just in time for summer renters and homeowners to enjoy their waterfront escape.
Balance of Comfort and Utility
The office is a serene retreat with soft blue walls and a sleek waterfall-edge desk. Paired with lounge chairs, it’s a nice balance of comfort and utility. Coastal interior design influences are woven throughout, adding a light, airy feel. Meanwhile, the family room feels cozy with its deep purple walls, a cobblestone fireplace, and a durable Kravet sectional. A cute collection of prints from Katie Ré Scheidt sits just above the seat back. The pièce de résistance: a whimsical mermaid sculpture discovered on Nantucket now graces the mantel.

Comfort & Practicality
Guest bedrooms make the most of space without giving up style. Each room combines vintage and modern pieces in soft greens and blues – the colors of the ocean. The result is a relaxed, cohesive feel that fits the home’s overall look. Custom pillows and floral bedding add quiet detail, carefully chosen to bring in subtle touches of coastal interior design. The rooms feel calm, comfortable, and ready for guests to settle in.

Coastal & New England
In the breakfast nook, upholstered wood chairs surround a vintage table from Chairish. The dining room features classic black farmhouse chairs and a geometric rug. A guest room adds a richer note with hunter green walls and louvered shades. Every detail connects to the coastal setting while reflecting timeless New England style.

Why This Project Matters (Even If It Won’t Win Awards)
This house might not be destined for magazine covers, but it shows how an empty space can become a true home. It has character and purpose—despite a tight budget, a short timeline, and island logistics. Whether in Edgartown, Cape Cod, or Boston, our goal stays the same. We create timeless, functional coastal interiors that reflect their surroundings. These homes are meant to be lived in, with space for life’s little imperfections—like a bit of sand on the floor.
