The houndstooth-patterned rug grounds the space, while the oiled oak table with its hidden extension, quietly expands to seat 10. Coordinating chairs, with cognac leather seat pads, are comfortable and easily cleanable - ideal for the kids that enjoy dinner here each night. A walnut and marble-topped console rounds out the design. Dinner, anyone?
the studio transformed the main living and dining areas of this historic home into a welcoming and functional space, perfectly suited for a modern family. Respecting the home's original architectural charm, the design integrates contemporary furnishings while maintaining the character of the old-school structure. Coordinating with clean white walls, the expansive area rug ties together the open-plan layout, connecting the dining and sitting areas.
In the dining room, directly adjacent to the kitchen, mid-century modern touches such as a walnut and marble console, a sleek dining table, and leather-seat chairs are anchored by the original marble fireplace - delineating the dining from living spaces. At the opposite end, a custom curved sofa mirrors the curvature of the brownstone’s bow-front window. Upholstered in a durable hunter green fabric, the sofa combines beauty and practicality, perfect for a family of five. Additional mid-century pieces, like a Saarinen table and a reupholstered Womb chair in off-white boucle, further the mid-century vibes.
Throughout the project, every material and fabric was carefully selected for its durability, ensuring that the home is both visually appealing and family-friendly. The space was finished with carefully curated accent pillows, decor, and fine art, creating a refined yet livable environment.
