This open-air pool house features striking red cedar siding on the ceilings and columns. Just off the pool with a newly poured concrete surround, the outdoor living space flows directly into an exposed kitchen. Offering shade from the sun, the interior is heated and cooled for year-round use—perfect for unpredictable New England weather.
this modern pool house in Hingham serves as both an outdoor living space and a guest house. Collaborating with Estes Twombly + Titrington Architects, the studio aimed to create spaces that complement the main house (see more here) while standing as its own structure.
In the kitchen, red cedar siding mirrors the structure's exterior, and surround the soft grey metal cabinets - durable, but designed with a mechanical screen for off season coverage. The concrete tile backsplash is simple and durable, relating to the conrete flooring in the open-air space. Inside, the living room features white walls contrasted with more red cedar millwork, while typical living room furnishings can face the pool or look inward toward a gas fireplace and wall mounted television. The facing sofas, one of which pulls out to a bed, seats many and can handle overnight guests.
The bathroom has two entry doors, one from the living room, and another from the exterior for swimming kiddos. An accent wall features custom colored Moroccan concrete tiles and traditional New England shiplap, combining modern and classic elements.
Featured in New England Home Magazine, this modern pool house in Hingham serves as both an outdoor living space and a guest house, showcasing thoughtful design and timeless New England details.
Designed with versatility in mind,
"The best part of the pool house, though, may come from the feeling that you don’t have to choose
between the indoorsy or outdoorsy
lifestyle."
