A bright and playful reading nook on the stair landing, where sleek custom cabinetry hides the kids' favorite chapter books and adds a spot for plants beneath the window. Low-slung lounge chairs from Ligne Roset make book swapping a breeze, while fun art and a bold rug bring character to this white-on-white space. Minimal design, maximum reading (and fun).
characterize the kids spaces in this modern Hingham home, designed by architect Peter Twombly. The studio was brought on to infuse color, art and furniture into the kids' bedrooms, shared bathroom, and basement, all while maintaining the home's minimalist architecture.
On the second floor, a custom reading nook with built-in storage that blends with the existing architecture - nesting neatly under existing windows. Each bedroom reflects the children’s personalities: forest-inspired wallpaper and rust-colored drapes in the older daughter’s room, candy-colored wallpaper and raspberry accents in the younger daughter's, and constellation wallpaper on the ceiling of the son's room. The shared bathroom features iconic Hinson Splatter wallpaper, accented with a collection of colorful art.
In the basement, what was once a plain white media room comes to life with new navy wainscot and bold wallpaper, extending up onto the ceiling. A custom cabinet, integrated into the wainscot, stores toys and includes glass doors and lighting. The room is finished with new sconces, art, and furniture, making it movie-night ready. The adjacent playroom includes a colorful built-in and a newly upholstered bench, offering a playful yet functional retreat.
